Bihar Laboratory Assistant Recruitment Selection Process 2025 |
The Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Lab Assistants (प्रयोगशाला सहायक) under the Public Health Engineering Department. A total of 143 vacancies have been announced and the selection will be done through a multi-stage competitive exam.
Here’s the complete BSSC Lab Assistant Selection Process 2025, including exam pattern, qualifying marks and shortlisting criteria.
📋 Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (प्रारंभिक परीक्षा)
- The preliminary exam will be conducted only if more than 40,000 applications are received.
- It will be objective type and may be held in multiple shifts.
- In case of multiple shifts, the result will be normalized using a standard procedure.
- The exam will be conducted in Hindi/English and if any differences arise, the English version will be considered final.
✅ Preliminary Exam Pattern:
- Total Questions: 150
- Question Type: Multiple Choice (MCQ)
- Total Duration: 2 Hours
- Marking Scheme:
- +4 marks for each correct answer
- -1 mark for each wrong answer
📘 Subjects Covered:
- General Studies – 35 questions
- Science (Intermediate level) – 75 questions
- Quantitative Aptitude & Mental Ability – 40 questions
Candidates equal to 5 times the number of vacancies in each category will be shortlisted for the Main Exam based on preliminary exam performance.
📋 Stage 2: Main Examination (मुख्य परीक्षा)
- A separate advertisement for the Main Exam will be released later.
- Only those shortlisted from the preliminary exam will be eligible to apply.
✅ Qualifying Marks (Minimum Cut-off)
As per the Bihar Government’s guidelines:

Candidates who fail to meet the category-wise qualifying marks will not be considered for the merit list.
⚖️ Tie-Breaking Rules
If two or more candidates secure the same score, the tie will be resolved as follows:
- The candidate older in age will be placed higher.
- If the age is also the same, then the candidate with a name appearing earlier in English alphabetical order will be ranked higher.
📌 Final Selection
The final selection will be made strictly on the basis of merit derived from the Main Exam scores, after applying all reservation and tie-breaking rules. The preliminary exam is only qualifying in nature to shortlist candidates.
