Application Fees

After ensuring the correctness of the details in the GATE application form, candidates are required to pay the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) application fee through the payment gateway on the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) website integrated with the online application. Online fee payment through Net Banking or debit / credit card will be available upto 28 September 2025 at 23.59 hrs.

The GATE 2026 fee payment can be made by using Debit card, Credit card and Net Banking etc by providing information as per the instructions on the your computer screen.

GATE Age Limit 2025

Date of Birth filled by the candidate in the GATE online application form and the same recorded in the Matriculation or equivalent/ Birth certificate will be accepted by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) for determining the age and no subsequent request for change will be considered or granted. GATE Selection Process 2025

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati as a Computer Based Test (CBT) across India. The process is clearly defined in the official notification and involves registration, admit card, exam, evaluation and results.

Here’s the complete examination process explained in simple words.


📌 1. Mode of Examination

  • The test will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode only.
  • Language of the question paper: English.
  • Duration: 3 hours (for PwD candidates with approved compensatory time, duration will be 4 hours).
  • The exam will consist of 65 questions carrying 100 marks.
  • Question types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT).

📌 2. Structure of the Paper

Each GATE paper has two parts:

Section Marks
General Aptitude (GA) 15 marks
Subject-specific section 85 marks
Total 100 marks
  • General Aptitude has 10 questions (5 of 1-mark, 5 of 2-marks).
  • Subject section has 55 questions (mix of 1-mark and 2-mark).

📌 3. Marking Scheme

MCQs:

  • 1-mark question → Wrong answer = -⅓ mark
  • 2-mark question → Wrong answer = -⅔ mark

MSQs:

  • One or more correct answers possible.
  • No negative marking.
  • No partial marking.

NATs:

  • Candidates enter a number using the virtual keyboard.
  • No negative marking.
  • No partial marking.

📌 4. Virtual Tools During Exam

  • A virtual calculator will be provided on the screen for numerical questions.
  • Candidates cannot use personal calculators or electronic devices.
  • A scribble pad will be provided for rough work (to be returned after the exam).

📌 5. Examination Day Guidelines

  • Candidates must carry a printout of the admit card and the same valid photo ID used during application.
  • Late entry beyond 30 minutes of exam start is not allowed.
  • Leaving the exam hall before the scheduled end time is prohibited.
  • Items like mobile phones, smartwatches and personal calculators are banned.

📌 6. After the Examination

  1. Response Sheet Publication: Candidate’s responses will be uploaded on the GATE portal.
  2. Answer Keys: Draft answer keys will be released for all papers. Candidates can submit challenges by paying a fee.
  3. Final Answer Keys: After reviewing challenges, final answer keys will be published.
  4. Result Declaration: Results will be announced on 19 March 2026.
  5. Scorecard Download:
    • Free download: 27 March – 31 May 2026
    • Paid download (₹500 per paper): 01 June – 31 Dec 2026
    • After 31 December 2026, scorecards will not be available.

📌 7. Validity of GATE Score

  • GATE 2026 score will be valid for 3 years from the result announcement date.
  • After this period, the score will not be available on the portal.

The GATE 2026 Examination Process is simple:

  1. Apply online via GOAPS.
  2. Download admit card.
  3. Appear for CBT with 65 questions.
  4. Check responses and answer keys.
  5. Results on 19 March 2026.
  6. Download scorecard (valid for 3 years).

How to Apply for GATE 2026

GATE 2026 Online Registration and Submission process will be terminated by 28 September 2025 at 23.59 hrs. Candidature of such applicants who fail to complete online submission of GATE application form by stipulated date and time will not be considered and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

  • Applicants must fulfil all essential eligibility criteria (educational qualification, age limit, etc.) by last date of submission of GATE application form in respect to that post for which they are applying.
  • GATE 2025 Candidate Can Apply Between 28 August 2025 to 28 September 2025.
  • Candidate Read the Notification Before Apply the Application Form in GATE Online Form 2025.
  • Check all Required Documents for GATE Examination- Eligibility, ID Proof, Address Details, Basic Details.
  • Ready Scan Document Related to GATE Examination- Photo, Sign, ID Proof, Etc.
  • Before Submit the Application Form Must Check and Preview all Columns Carefully.
  • If Candidate Required to Paying the Registration Fee Must Submit. If You have Not the Required Application Fees Your Form is Not Completed.
  • Take A Print Out of GATE Final Submitted Form.
