The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) has released Advertisement No. 06/2026 for various Group C posts including Prison Assistant Superintendent Jail and Prison Warder. The recruitment process will be conducted according to the Haryana CET Policy 2024 and HSSC Rules 2025.
For candidates preparing for this recruitment it is important to understand each stage of selection clearly. Below is the complete and simplified HSSC CET Group C Selection Process 2026.
Stage 1: Haryana CET Qualification
The first requirement for recruitment is qualification in the Haryana Common Eligibility Test (CET) Group C.
Only those candidates who have already qualified CET and secured the prescribed minimum marks are eligible to apply for the advertised posts. The eligibility criteria are:
- General Category: Minimum 50% marks in CET
- Reserved Categories: Minimum 40% marks in CET
After receiving requisitions from departments HSSC invites applications from eligible CET-qualified candidates.
Stage 2: Shortlisting Through CET Score
After the application process ends HSSC prepares a shortlist based on CET marks.
For most Group C posts other than Police and Teaching posts the number of candidates called for the next stage will be up to 10 times the total advertised vacancies.
For example:
- If 100 vacancies are advertised
- Up to 1,000 candidates may be shortlisted for the written examination
If multiple candidates secure the same CET score as the last shortlisted candidate then all such candidates will be allowed to appear in the examination.
Stage 3: Written Examination
Candidates shortlisted through CET will appear in the written examination conducted by HSSC.

Important Negative Marking Rule
There is no penalty for incorrect answers.
However if a candidate leaves a question unanswered and does not mark the fifth option on the OMR sheet then 1 mark will be deducted.
Therefore candidates must either:
- Attempt the question
- Or fill the fifth bubble if they wish to leave it unanswered
Minimum Qualifying Marks in Written Exam
To remain in the selection process candidates must secure the minimum qualifying marks:

Stage 4: Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

Candidates must first qualify the prescribed physical standards.

Stage 5: Physical Screening Test (PST)
Candidates who qualify PMT will have to undergo a Physical Screening Test.
This test is only qualifying in nature and no marks are awarded.

HSSC may use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or other advanced technology to ensure transparency and accuracy during the physical test.
Stage 6: Merit List Preparation
After completion of the written examination and any required skill or physical tests HSSC prepares the merit list.
The merit list is based primarily on:
- Marks obtained in the written examination
- Additional score wherever applicable under recruitment rules
Candidates with higher marks are ranked higher in the merit list.
Stage 7: Document Verification
Candidates who qualify the merit stage are called for document scrutiny.
During this stage HSSC verifies:
- Educational qualifications
- Category certificates
- CET details
- Identity proof
- Reservation claims
- Experience certificates if applicable
Only documents uploaded during the application process will be considered during scrutiny. Any mismatch can lead to cancellation of candidature.

Tie-Breaking Rules
If two or more candidates secure equal marks then HSSC follows the following rules:
Rule 1: Older Candidate Gets Preference
The candidate who is older in age will be placed higher in the merit list.
Rule 2: Higher CET Marks
If both candidates have the same marks and same date of birth then the candidate with higher CET Phase-I marks will be ranked higher.
