IIT Kanpur Selection Process 2026 |
The selection process for IIT Kanpur Recruitment 2026 varies according to the post applied for. The Institute reserves the right to decide the mode of screening and assessment for shortlisting candidates. All stages of the recruitment process will be conducted only in the English language.
Selection Process for Group A Posts
(Superintending Engineer, Deputy Registrar, Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer, Assistant Registrar, Assistant Counsellor and Hall Management Officer)
Candidates applying for Group A posts may have to undergo the following stages:
- Written Test (if conducted by the Institute).
- Seminar/Presentation before an Expert Panel.
- Personal Interview.
Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the Seminar/Presentation and Interview stages. The final selection will be based on the candidate’s performance in the prescribed assessment stages and verification of eligibility documents.
Selection Process for Medical Officer
For the post of Medical Officer, selection will be made through:
- Personal Interview
Candidates shortlisted by the Institute will be invited directly for the interview round.
Selection Process for Group B and Group C Posts
(Junior Superintendent, Junior Technical Superintendent, Junior Assistant and Junior Technician)
The selection process for Group B and Group C posts may include:
- Written Examination
- Skill Test / Job-Oriented Practical Test
- Any Other Selection Method as decided by IIT Kanpur according to recruitment rules.
Candidates must qualify each stage as prescribed by the Institute to be considered for final selection.
Document Verification
Candidates who qualify the required stages of the recruitment process will be called for document verification. During verification, candidates must produce original certificates and documents related to:
- Educational qualifications
- Work experience
- Category certificates (if applicable)
- Age proof
- Other supporting documents mentioned in the application form
Any mismatch between the information submitted in the online application and the original documents may lead to cancellation of candidature.
Shortlisting Criteria
Meeting the minimum eligibility conditions does not automatically guarantee selection or even shortlisting. IIT Kanpur may adopt higher eligibility standards and additional screening criteria to limit the number of candidates called for the next stage of recruitment.
Tie-Breaking Rule
If two or more candidates obtain the same score during the selection process, preference will be given to the older candidate in age.
Final Selection
The final merit list will be prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the applicable selection stages, successful document verification and fulfillment of all eligibility conditions prescribed by IIT Kanpur. The Institute’s decision regarding selection will be final and binding on all candidates.
