Indian Army SSC Technical Eligibility Criteria

For SSC (Tech) ( 65th Men & 36th Women):

• Candidates who have passed the Engineering Degree course in Related Trade / Post or are in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply.

For Widows of Defence Personnel:

• SSCW (Non Tech) (Non UPSC): Graduation in any Discipline.
• SSCW (Tech): BE/ B.Tech in Any Engineering Stream.

Indian Army SSC Technical Selection Process 2025

Shortlisting of Applications

After the application window closes, the Indian Army evaluates the applications based on the following:

• Academic Performance: Marks scored in the engineering degree.
• Discipline-Specific Requirements: Shortlisting depends on the number of vacancies in each engineering discipline.

Shortlisted candidates are notified via email or through the official website for the next stage of the selection process.

SSB Interview

The Service Selection Board (SSB) interview is an important stage of the selection process. It is conducted in two phases over a period of 5 days:

Stage I: Screening

• Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test: Verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests.
• Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT): Candidates write a story and discuss it in a group setting.

Candidates who clear Stage I proceed to Stage II.

Stage II: Psychological and Personality Tests

• Psychological Test: Includes Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT) and Situation Reaction Test (SRT).
• Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks: Group discussions, outdoor tasks and command tasks to assess leadership and teamwork.
• Personal Interview: Conducted by senior officers to evaluate personal traits, motivation and suitability for the Army.

Conference

The final board conference determines whether the candidate is recommended for the next phase.

Medical Examination

Candidates recommended by the SSB undergo a thorough medical examination at designated military hospitals.

• The examination evaluates physical fitness and overall health.
• Only medically fit candidates are eligible for final selection.

Merit List

The Indian Army prepares a merit list based on:

• Performance in the SSB interview.
• Medical fitness.
• Number of vacancies in the respective discipline.

Candidates who rank high on the merit list are offered the Short Service Commission in the Technical branch.

Training

Selected candidates join the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai for a 49-week training program.

• The training focuses on leadership, military strategy and technical skills.
• Successful completion of the program results in commissioning as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army.
