The selection process follows three stages as per Odisha Judicial Service Rules. Candidates must qualify each stage to move forward. Final merit is prepared using marks of Main Exam and Interview.

Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination

This is a screening test.

• Total Questions: 100
• Each Question: 1 mark
• Negative Marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer

Qualifying Marks:

• General: 40%
• SC/ST/PwBD: 35%

This stage is only for shortlisting to Main Exam.

Stage 2 – Main Written Examination

This is the most important stage. It is descriptive in nature.

• Candidates must choose any 3 optional subjects
• All papers are descriptive
• Answer writing is in English

Qualifying Marks:

Only qualified candidates are called for interview.

Stage 3 – Interview

• Total Marks: 100
• Minimum Qualifying: 40%

Candidates are shortlisted up to 3 times the vacancies.
Interview checks legal knowledge communication and awareness.

Final Merit List

• Main Exam + Interview marks are counted
• Weightage is combined for final ranking

Tie Breaking Rules

If two candidates get same marks:

1. Higher marks in Main Exam
2. Higher marks in LLB
3. Older candidate gets higher rank

• Preliminary marks are not counted in final merit
• Merit list remains valid for 1 year
• Candidates must clear each stage separately
