RRB NTPC UG recruitment takes place in multiple stages. A candidate must clear each stage to get the final appointment. Selection stages are:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT 1)
2. Computer Based Test (CBT 2)
3. Typing Skill Test (only for typing related posts)
4. Document Verification
5. Medical Examination

Computer Based Test (CBT 1)

This is the first screening test. The exam is objective type and is conducted online.

CBT 1 Exam Pattern

• Time Duration: 90 minutes
• Negative Marking: Yes (0.25 mark deducted for each wrong answer)

CBT 1 result is used to shortlist candidates for CBT 2.

Computer Based Test (CBT 2)

This is the main exam. Questions are asked in more depth compared to CBT 1.

CBT 2 Exam Pattern

• Time Duration: 90 minutes
• Negative Marking: Yes (0.25 mark per wrong answer)

Candidates selected from CBT 2 move to the next stage.

Typing Skill Test (Only for some posts)

This test is required only for posts which involve typing work.

Typing Speed Requirement:

• English: 30 words per minute
• Hindi: 25 words per minute

Typing test is only qualifying. Marks of this test are not added in the merit list.

• Junior Clerk Cum Typist
• Accounts Clerk Cum Typist
• Junior Time Keeper
  and similar clerk level posts.

Document Verification

Candidates who pass CBT 2 and Typing Test (if applicable) are called for document verification.
Original certificates are checked at this stage.
If any document is not correct the candidate may be rejected.

Medical Examination

This is the final stage.
Railway checks the physical fitness of the candidate.
Different posts have different medical standards.
Only medically fit candidates are finally selected.
