SAIL MT Recruitment Age Limit |
Date of Birth filled by the candidate in the SAIL Management Trainee online application form and the same recorded in the Matriculation or equivalent/ Birth certificate will be accepted by the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for determining the age and no subsequent request for change will be considered or granted. The age limit for SAIL Management Trainee is;

SAIL MT Recruitment Selection Process |
Steel Authority of India Limited is recruiting 124 Management Trainees Technical in various engineering disciplines. The selection process is designed to check domain knowledge and overall suitability of candidates for frontline technical roles in SAIL plants, units and mines.
This guide explains the complete selection process in a simple and clear way so that candidates can prepare without confusion.
SAIL MTT Selection Process 2025 – Overview
SAIL follows a three stage selection process for Management Trainee Technical posts:
- Online Examination (CBT)
- Group Discussion (GD)
- Personal Interview
Only those who qualify each stage will be considered for final merit.
1. Online Examination (CBT)
The Computer Based Test will be held in January or February 2026 at exam centres across India.
The online exam carries 200 marks and has two parts.

Minimum Qualifying Percentile
Candidates must score the following percentile to qualify for GD and Interview:

Candidates must qualify both parts of the exam separately.
2. Group Discussion (GD)
Candidates who clear the CBT will be shortlisted for GD in a 1:3 ratio, discipline wise and category wise.
Key points:
- GD will test communication skills, problem solving ability and group behaviour.
- GD call letter will be available on the SAIL career portal.
- No separate communication will be sent by post.
3. Personal Interview
Candidates shortlisted from GD will attend a Personal Interview.
The interview evaluates:
- Technical understanding
- Leadership qualities
- Decision making
- Behaviour and suitability for SAIL frontline roles
Final Merit List Preparation
The final merit list is prepared by combining marks of all three stages:

Candidates will be selected in order of merit.
Tie Breaking Rules
If two candidates get equal final marks:
- Candidate with higher CBT marks will be preferred.
- If still tied, candidate with higher marks in engineering degree will be selected.
Biometric Verification
SAIL will capture biometric data at three stages:
- CBT
- GD/Interview
- Joining
Any mismatch or inconsistency may lead to cancellation of candidature.
Training and Probation
- Selected candidates will undergo 1 year training.
- They will be registered as Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- After training, they will be on 1 year probation.
Post & Salary After Selection
- Basic Pay during training: ₹50,000 per month
- After training: Appointed as Assistant Manager (E1 Grade)
- Pay Scale: ₹60,000 – 1,80,000
- Approx CTC: ₹16 to 17 lakh per year (excluding PRP and location allowances)
Placement
Selected candidates can be posted at any SAIL Plant, Unit or Mine.
No transfer request will be allowed for the first 4 years.
For departmental candidates, the restriction is 2 years.

SAIL MT Recruitment 2025 Online Registration and Submission process will be terminated by 05 December 2025 at 23.59 hrs. Candidature of such applicants who fail to complete online submission of SAIL Management Trainee application form by stipulated date and time will not be considered and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
- Applicants must fulfil all essential eligibility criteria (educational qualification, age limit, etc.) by last date of submission of SAIL Management Trainee application form in respect to that post for which they are applying.
