WBPSC Clerkship Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates should have passed class 10th or equivalent certificate from any recognized Board in India.
• Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).

WBPSC Clerkship Selection Process 2023

The examination is divided into two parts: Part-I (Objective Type) and Part-II (Conventional Type – Written).

Part-I Examination:
This section holds a weightage of 100 marks, comprising 100 questions, each carrying one mark. The questions are of multiple-choice, objective type, covering English (30 marks), General Studies (40 marks), and Arithmetic (30 marks). The duration for Part-I is set at 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Part-II Examination: Part-II consists of conventional type questions categorized into:
a) Group-A: English
b) Group-B: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali
Each group carries 50 marks. The duration for Part-II is 1 hour.

The elementary knowledge in Computer operation and typing ability will be assessed only after candidates qualify in both Part-I and Part-II.

WBPSC Clerkship Syllabus 2023

Part -I:
English: Covers fundamentals such as vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and correct usage.
General Studies: Includes matters of everyday observation, everyday science, current events, and problems with special reference to India. Also covers elementary knowledge of Indian History and Indian Geography.
Arithmetic: Encompasses topics like divisibility, fractions, decimals, recurring decimals, simplification, HCF, LCM, partnership, average, ratio and proportions, percentage, simple interest, profit & loss, time & distance, and area of rectangles and squares.

Part-II:
Group-A: English
a) Drafting of a report in English from provided points or materials.
b) Condensing of a prose passage (Summary/Precis).
c) Translation from Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali into English.

Group-B: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali:
a) Drafting of a report from given points or materials.
b) Condensing of a prose passage (summary or précis).
c) Translation from English into Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali.

The examination’s standard is expected to be similar to that of the Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
