Bihar High Court Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2025

To be eligible for the post of Stenographer as of January 1, 2025, the applicant must meet the following minimum educational / computer qualifications:

• The candidate should have completed Intermediate (12th grade) from a recognized Board/ University.
• Possess a Certificate in English Shorthand and English Typing from a recognized institution.
• Additionally, the candidate should have completed a Diploma/Certificate course of at least six months in Computer Application.
• The applicant should be able to maintain a minimum typing speed of 80 wpm in English shorthand.
• Should have a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm in English Typing.

Bihar High Court Stenographer Written Exam 2025

The selection process includes a Written Test, which is a Multiple Choice Question-based objective test. This is followed by an English shorthand-computer typing test, where candidates are required to achieve a typing speed of 80 words per minute for a total of 320 words.

The shorthand dictation will be given at the rate of 80 words per minute and candidates will have 4 minutes to complete it. After the dictation, there will be a transcription time of 15 minutes, along with 7 minutes provided for the revision of shorthand immediately after the dictation.

Shorthand test, candidates will also undergo an English Typing test with a required speed of 40 words per minute.

Bihar High Court Stenographer Syllabus 2025

The Written test for this examination will cover the following subjects:

English Language and Grammar (30 Marks): This section will assess the candidates’ proficiency in the English language and grammar. It will include questions on spotting errors, filling in the blanks, identifying synonyms and homonyms, recognizing antonyms, spelling and detecting mis-spelt words, understanding idioms & phrases, substitution of single words, improving sentence structures and identifying active/passive voice of verbs.

Basic Computer Science (20 Marks): This section will focus on fundamental concepts related to computer science. It will cover topics such as the history of computers, computer terminologies, commonly used computer abbreviations, basics of hardware and software, keyboard shortcuts, an overview of operating systems, basic functionalities of MS-Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet terms and services, networking and communication and information on security tools and viruses.

Important Notes:

• The question paper for the Written Test will be available only in the English language.
• There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers in the written test.
