BSF Tradesman Eligibility Criteria

Constable (Cook, Water Carrier, Waiter)

• Passed Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board.
• Completion of NSQF Level-I course in food production or kitchen recognized by National Skill Development Corporation or NSDC-approved institutes.

Constable (Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Sweeper)

• Passed Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized Board.
• Must be proficient in respective trade.

BSF Tradesman Selection Process

The Border Security Force (BSF) is one of the premier paramilitary forces in India, responsible for safeguarding the country’s borders. BSF invites online applications from Indian male and female citizens for the post of Constable (Tradesman) in various trades. The selection process for BSF Tradesman involves multiple stages, which are discussed in detail below.

BSF Tradesman Written Exam 2023

Candidates who are eligible to appear for the Written Examination. The Written Examination is conducted to assess the candidate’s knowledge of general awareness, mathematics, reasoning, and English or Hindi language. The exam is conducted in both English and Hindi languages. The duration of the exam is 2 hours, and the maximum marks are 100.

BSF Tradesman Physical Standard Test (PST)

The first stage of the selection process is the Physical Standard Test (PST). In this test, candidates’ physical measurements are taken to ensure that they meet the required standards. The minimum height for male candidates is 165 cm, and for female candidates, it is 155 cm. The chest measurement for male candidates should be 75cm, with a minimum expansion of 5 cm. Candidates failing to meet these standards are disqualified from the recruitment process.

BSF Tradesman Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is the next stage of the selection process. In this test, candidates are required to complete a race of 5 km within 24 minutes for male candidates and 1.6 km within 8.30 minutes for female candidates. Candidates who complete the race within the prescribed time are eligible for the next stage.

BSF Tradesman Documentation 2023

During documentation, candidates must carry original and photocopies of all relevant documents including certificates for Date of Birth, essential qualifications, Caste (OBC/SC/ST) certificates as per the Government of India’s list, domicile certificate, and identity verification documents. The documents will be verified/checked with reference to the cut-off date mentioned in the examination advertisement/notice. Candidates are required to place photocopies of the verified documents in a dossier duly signed by the PO with a seal and also by the concerned candidate.

BSF Tradesman Trade Test 2023

Candidates who clear the PST , PET and Documentation are called for a Trade Test. In this stage, candidates are assessed for their proficiency in the trade they have applied for. The Trade Test is conducted to evaluate the practical knowledge of the candidate in the respective trade. Candidates who fail to clear the Trade Test are not considered further for the selection process.

• Cobbler– Polishing of shoes, handling tools, cutting of leather, repair & stitching of shoes.
• Tailor– Taking measurement of persons, cutting of cloth and Stitching of uniform.
• Washerman– Washing of clothes, Ironing of Khaki, Cotton uniform, woolen and TC uniform.
• Barber– Handling of tools, haircutting and shaving.
• Sweeper– Sweeping, cleaning of toilets and bathroom etc.
• Cook, Waiter and Water Carrier– No trade test required

BSF Tradesman Medical Examination 2023

The final stage of the selection process is the Medical Examination. Candidates who clear the trade test are called for a medical examination. The medical examination is conducted to ensure that the candidate is physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a BSF Tradesman.
