SSC JHT Eligibility Criteria 2023 |
For post codes ‘A’ to ‘C’(Junior Hindi Translator/Junior Translation Officer/Junior Translator in various Central Government Ministries/Departments/Organizations):
- A Master’s degree in Hindi with English either as a required or optional subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level; or
- A Master’s degree in English with Hindi either as a required or optional subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level; or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi as the medium of examination and English either as a required or optional subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level; or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English as the medium of examination and Hindi either as a required or optional subject, or as the medium of examination at the degree level; or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with both Hindi and English as required or optional subjects, or with one of them as the medium of examination and the other as a required or optional subject at the degree level; and
- A recognized diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, or a minimum of two years’ experience in translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in a Central or State Government Office, including Government of India Undertakings.

- A Master’s degree in Hindi with English either as a compulsory or elective subject, or with English as the medium of examination at the degree level. or
- A Master’s degree in English with Hindi either as a compulsory or elective subject, or with Hindi as the medium of examination at the degree level. or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi as the medium of instruction and English either as a compulsory or elective subject, or with English as the medium of examination at the degree level. or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English as the medium of instruction and Hindi either as a compulsory or elective subject, or with Hindi as the medium of examination at the degree level. or
- A Master’s degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with both Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects, or with either of the two as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at the degree level. and
In addition to the above qualifications, candidates should have either:

SSC JHT Paper- I (Computer Based Mode, Objective Type)

Candidates need to achieve the following minimum qualifying marks in the Computer Based Examination:
- For Unreserved (UR) candidates: 30%
- For Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates: 25%
- For all other categories: 20%
Candidates will be shortlisted for Paper-II, based on their marks obtained in Paper-I (Computer Based Examination), categorized by their respective groups. In case the Computer Based Examination is held in multiple shifts, standardized marks will be used for merit calculation and final selection.
After evaluating the performance in Paper-I & Paper-II, candidates will be considered for the ultimate selection. There might be distinct category-specific cutoff for Paper-I & Paper-II.
The final selection and allocation of Ministry/Department/Organization will be determined by candidates’ performance in Paper-I & Paper-II, as well as the preferences they indicate for Post(s)/Department(s).
SSC JHT Syllabus 2023
Paper-I (Computer Based):
This section aims to assess candidates’ grasp of languages and literature, as well as their proficiency in using words, phrases, and idioms accurately. It also evaluates their capacity to express themselves in the languages with correctness, precision and effectiveness. The questions presented will correspond to the complexity expected at the degree level.
Paper-II (Translation and Essay):
Paper-II encompasses two translation passages—one from Hindi to English and the other from English to Hindi. Additionally, there will be an Essay in both Hindi and English. This segment aims to gauge candidates’ translation competencies and their aptitude for writing and comprehending the two languages with accuracy, precision and effectiveness. The paper’s difficulty level aligns with the stipulated educational qualifications.
