ISRO Scientist and Engineer Recruitment Selection Process

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), under its Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), has released the Advertisement No. ISRO:ICRB:02(EMC):2025 dated 27 May 2025. This notification invites applications for the post of Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ in disciplines like Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science Engineering.


1. Selection Process Overview

The ISRO selection process consists of the following stages:

  • Written Test
  • Interview
  • Final Empanelment based on Combined Score

Only Indian nationals are eligible. The recruitment is for Group ‘A’ posts (both Gazetted and Non-Gazetted depending on the unit).


2. Written Test

Exam Mode and Centres

  • Written test will be conducted at 11 major centres: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram.
  • ISRO reserves the right to change/cancel test centres if necessary.

Admit Cards

  • Emailed only to registered email IDs of applicants.

Question Paper Pattern

  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Two Parts:
  • Part A – 80 MCQs from the discipline applied for
    • 1 mark per question
    • Negative marking: -1/3 for every wrong answer
  • Part B – 15 MCQs on Aptitude/Ability
    • Total of 20 marks
    • No negative marking

Qualifying Marks in Written Test

Unreserved (UR) candidates:

  • Minimum 50% in both Part A and Part B separately
  • Minimum 50 out of 100 overall

Reserved (PwBD only):

  • Minimum 40% in both Part A and Part B
  • Minimum 40 out of 100 overall

Only those who qualify the written test will be shortlisted for the interview stage in the ratio of 1:5 (min. 10 candidates per post).


3. Interview Process

Shortlisting Criteria

  • Candidates will be shortlisted in a 1:5 ratio based on written test scores.
  • Additional candidates from reserved categories may be called irrespective of UR shortlist.

Interview Evaluation Criteria (Total 100 Marks)

  1. Technical Knowledge – 40 marks
  2. General Technical Awareness – 20 marks
  3. Presentation/Communication Skills – 20 marks
  4. Comprehension Ability – 10 marks
  5. Academic Achievements – 10 marks, based on:
  • Institute ranking (IITs/NITs/IISc/top NIRF 20) – 3 marks
  • CGPA/percentage
    • CGPA ≥ 9 / >85% – 4 marks
    • CGPA 7.5–9 / 71–85% – 2 marks
  • Institute Rank 1–3 – 3 marks

Interview Qualifying Marks

  • UR candidates: 60%
  • PwBD candidates: 50%

4. Final Empanelment

Weightage Formula

Final merit list is prepared by giving equal weightage to:

  • Written Test: 50%
  • Interview: 50%

Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more candidates score the same marks:

  1. Higher marks in Written Test
  2. Higher marks in Essential Qualification
  3. Older in age gets preference

5. Important Instructions

  • The selection process is strictly merit-based.
  • All communications will be through the candidate’s registered email ID.
  • ISRO reserves the right to modify or cancel any part of the recruitment.
  • The answer key of the written exam will be published within 3 working days after the test. Objections can be raised within 5 days through the provided link.
  • Candidates must present original documents at the time of interview.
  • No TA is paid for appearing in the written test. However, second-class rail fare will be reimbursed for attending the interview.

6. Pay and Benefits

  • Selected candidates will be appointed in Level 10 of Pay Matrix with a starting basic pay of ₹56,100/-.
