The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is the state agency authorized to conduct the civil services review for entry-level appointments to various Uttar Pradesh Group A and Group B civil services.
The agency’s status is guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. Articles 315 to 323 of Part XIV of the Constitution, entitled Services within the Union and States, establish a Public Service Commission for the Union and for each State.
The Indianization of high civilian functions became one of the main instances of the political movement that forced the British Indian government to consider the creation of a Public Service Commission for the recruitment of its services in the territory.
Under the Government of India Act 1935, the formation of provincial public service commissions was initially authorized. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission was established on April 1, 1937 with headquarters in Allahabad. The functioning of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission is also governed by the Regulations of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission, 1976.
